HOUSING POLICY & SERVICES CENTER
MDHA will conduct its annual Homeless Count – sponsored by The Real Estate Council – on Jan. 26. Last year we counted 5,783 homeless individuals. Our surveys and count help determine the needs and identify the best evidence-based solutions. See last year’s report, click here.

Thank you to the University of Houston, Penn State, TicketCity Bowl and Conference-USA for making MDHA the official charity partner of the Jan. 2 game at the Cotton Bowl! Thank you to the many fans who donated to MDHA after stopping by our ice cream giveaway table. We appreciate all your support of our work to prevent and end homelessness. More

MDHA is advocating for officials to change plans to reduce critical mental health services for disabled homeless individuals in light of state budget cuts to NorthStar, the region's behavioral health program. Read MDHA President and CEO Mike Faenza's recommendations to ValueOptions, the for-profit company that has a state contract to manage local mental health and substance abuse services.

MDHA forms Greater Dallas Homeless Policy Alliance, a ground-breaking new partnership of elected officials that will work toward a regional solution to chronic homelessness. More
MDHA BEGINS A NEW CHAPTER
You probably know the Metro Dallas Homeless Alliance as the nonprofit that opened and ran The Bridge, Dallas’ successful homeless assistance center. But there’s much more to MDHA. We also provide housing, advocacy, education and leadership needed to solve homelessness. MDHA’s mission is the same: to prevent and end homelessness. But our focus has changed. MDHA recently helped The Bridge transition into a separate nonprofit after operating the center for three years. The spinoff allows us to focus entirely on our other programs to end homelessness:
  • Housing – MDHA has helped generate more than 1,000 homes for disabled homeless individuals and families with children through collaboration with partners since 2008 and plans for 1,800 more units by 2015.
  • Advocacy – MDHA fought for -- and won -- state revenue for The Bridge and works to change policies that create barriers to providing homes for homeless individuals and families with children.
  • Data – MDHA gathers, analyzes and reports data on homelessness in the Dallas-area.
  • Leadership – MDHA uses its data analysis, policy development expertise to build a more efficient and coordinated local solution to homelessness. MDHA also manages the region’s application for $15 million in annual funds to serve the homeless.

Please support our work to end the tragedy of homelessness.
